In the fall of 1867, a serious problem arises in the city of Denver: they have no whiskey left to get through the long, harsh winter. They then prepare a plan to bring a large shipment of drink to the city. Colonel Thadeus Gearhart (Burt Lancaster) is in charge of guarding the precious merchandise against the Sioux Indians, who want to snatch it away.
